Who does the Internet think I really am?

When it comes to the internet I know it quite well. I have three different devices that I use quite frequently for different things. The three devices that I use are my phone, my laptop, and my tablet. Each of these three items are used for different tasks. When I search for something on the internet I try to do it correspondent to the device. I don't always have the time necessary to go to the so called "correct'' device. If that is the case then I usually just look up what I need on my phone.

I guess since my phone is used the most I will talk a little bit about it. My phone is a device, that sadly, I use every single day unless I am in a remote area which is almost never. I do so many things on my phone, whether it is call, text, snap chat, Facebook, Instragram, etc. the list goes on. What I wanted to talk about is Facebook. When it comes to my phone I spend quite a bit of time on Facebook. The internet may even think I am addicted to it. I am always reading what others have to say and view updates of how others are doing, but I never get around to post anything about myself. The internet may think I am a creeper of sorts, but in all reality I am just a very shy person who doesn't really care to tell others how I feel. If somebody asks me how I am doing of course I will respond to them, but only if I am asked first. Everybody has their own problems to deal with and quite frankly I don't care to share mine with others unless they offer to listen.

The second device I would like to talk about is my laptop. My laptop is definitely used every day of the school week. I am constantly doing homework on my laptop so obviously the internet knows I am a well educated man, or at least trying to get myself to that point. When I am not doing homework on it I am usually watching Netflix. The internet can assume from this that I am getting an education and like everybody else I like my down time to sit back and relax. I use my email from my laptop as well almost every day. I send and receive at least two emails every day. The Internet knows I am a busy person with a lot on his plate.

Lastly I want to talk a little bit about my tablet. My tablet is the device where I play many mobile games. My favorite game being Clash of Clans. Many may not see it but I am a total gamer and love when I have the time to sit down and play them. Not only do I game on my tablet, but I also watch others stream live on apps such as Twitch tv, Youtube gaming, and Kamcord. Also when I am super bored I watch Youtube videos of how to attack tutorials. The Internet can see that I am an uber nerd who loves his games. I play many games, but the one at the top of my list right now is again Clash of Clans.

In conclusion, I think that the internet can see that I am an individual who likes to keep to myself, but also likes to see what others are doing with themselves. It can definitely tell that I love video games and may even think I am an addict. The google searches and scholarly searches I search for on my laptop show that I am either learning well or need a lot of help to learn. The internet has become a large part of my everyday life, as it has become for many people. I remember at the first of the semester we were asked how long we could go without technology. Honestly nowadays I doubt I could go without it for a full day, that is unless I could keep my self entertained some other way without the use of technology.

Facebook Campaign

For my campaign I decided to make a Facebook page for a friend's home staging company called First Impressions Home Staging, LLC. It didn't quite go as well as I had hoped.

What Worked?

My target audience was exactly who started looking at my page. At first it was just some friends trying to be funny, but later as the page grew a little a few people who I didn't know started looking at the page and liking it.

What Didn't Work?

I failed to post as much as I wanted to, and for that I did not get a lot of attention drawn to my page. When I posted I put too many pictures into a single frame. I needed to post less, but more of  the time. It was really hard to find time when the owner and I could meet so we could go over what she wanted posted. If I would have had a little more lee way with the project it may have went better.

Campaign Plan:

My original plan was to start a page for a friend's company. I wanted to post pictures, videos, helpful hints, and advice for people wanting to sell a home quicker. I wanted to post at least twice a week of at least pictures of past houses we finished. I wanted to catch the attention of realtors and other home owners in the area who are looking at selling homes.

Self Evaluation:

I learned a lot from doing this project. One thing that I learned quickly is that it is hard to keep on top of posting. I felt like I was doing a pretty decent job, when all of the sudden I look back at the previous post and it was posted two weeks before. I needed to stay on top of the project a little better than I did. I am not really tech savvy at all, this was my first experience starting and maintaining a page on Facebook. It has made me realized that it takes a lot of work in order for a page to stay up and running. I am thankful that I was able to take a part in this project.

Sustainability Group Project

The two cities that my group were given were Amsterdam and Miami. I decided to cover the section on reducing or eliminating carbon-based fuel consumption. I found quite a bit of information about Amsterdam when I was researching. Miami, on the other hand, was a different story. Amsterdam is Europe's top city for cycling and wants to maintain that position. Bicycles contribute to a healthier city that is less reliant on fossil fuels and bikes require less space than motor vehicles. By 2025. Amsterdam aims to reduce its CO2 emissions by 40 percent compared to 1990. Amsterdam has been and is still dedicated to remain a front runner in electric transport and strives to ensure that as much traffic in the city as possible is emission free by 2025. Miami offers more than 100 different bus routes and 22 miles of rapid transport. Still nothing compared to what Amsterdam has to offer.

OTM: Automatic Attitudinal Response Assessment

As I look back at my seven On the Media assignments I can definitely see that I resorted to default responses. I went with what the majority of people were saying about the issue. It's crazy how we default to our own automatic attitudinal responses.

OTM: The Little Pink Pill
In this short interview Brooke Gladstone talks about the effects on a new pill called Phlobantorin, or Viagra for women. I talked quite a bit about the facts, but not a whole lot on how it was affecting people. The advertising company makes the pill seem so much better than it actually is. I never thought about it in my own opinion because I had facts in front of me that already said it was great.

OTM: The Iranian Deal
This story talks about Obama wanting to help the Iranian government pass a nuclear deal. As I was reading through my past post I knew right away that my response to this was going to be negative. I read how everybody else was saying how negative the deal was going to be and how it was going to have negative effects on people. So I instantly concluded that it must be bad and my response was again a default response.

OTM: The Mexican Repatriation
Donald Trump wants to deport around 11 million Mexicans back to Mexico. Findings from the 1930's show that some Mexicans were born as American Patriots and therefore can't be deported. At the beginning I was all for sending them back because that's what everybody else was saying. As I look back on what I wrote I was impressed that in the end I wrote that even though some people think that it was a sham, I believe it needs to be taken more seriously.

OTM: Debunking Migration Memes
Over in Europe there are people who are saying that all Refugees are poor people and only want to be taken in. A meme was created showing a man walking into a town because they had "certain items" that peaked his interest. I was throwing out a lot of opinions that were mentioned in the interview. I needed to focus more on the facts for this article because it is important to make sure the facts are correct and not false. All human life is important and we shouldn't judge somebody based on their current living situation.

OTM: Rejecting Mainstream Climate Science
Seth Barnstein, a writer for the associated press, talks about all the doubters in the world rejecting mainstream climate science. I said it was hard for me to imagine why people would reject something like this when in all reality it affects all of us. I definitely think that is a default attitudinal response because everybody knows that if something happens to our environment it will affect all of us. Another thing I said which was obviously a default response was, "there are people who will agree and disagree with an idea."

OTM: Darkode
Most of my information I wrote about were stories of somebody who got hacked. I also put down the obvious about how hackers get away with what they do. I didn't really think too critically because I don't really know a lot about hacking. I felt really bad for the people who were affected by a hacker because it has also happened to me once before not too long ago actually.

OTM: Playboy covers up
This was an all around interesting on the media. I listed a few facts about where playboy came from and who started it. My response to this article was a little different from what some would say about it. Others were not too thrilled to hear that their favorite magazine was getting a new image, but I myself like what they are doing to the magazine. I can't say much about it though since I have never really looked at the magazine. I grew up being told not to look at magazines like this one.

It really surprised me just how much I have learned from doing these on the media assignments. It has made me look into the news of the world which I will do occasionally, but don't really like doing. Some of the information I found and talked about I enjoyed doing so, while on the other hand, there was an article or two that I thought to myself this is really weird and doesn't really apply to me. It was funny to look back and see how I responded to the articles. Most of my conclusions were based off what I learned as a kid growing up. My responses were definitely automatic.

On The Media: Playboy covers up

Physical: This is happening all over the world. Playboy has been around for as long as I can remember. Each year a new issue comes out which tries to come up with new ideas. This year was a little different. This year they are not having a nude model on the front.

Psychological: A lot of people are shocked with the new idea of a non-nude front page. The numbers are showing that each year there are more younger aged subscribers. People are wondering why exactly they are covering women up. Some people find playboy to be sexist and are happy they are covering up because women are people too.

Social: At the beginning most of the models were naughty and enjoyed showing themselves off. Quite a few years later Hugh Hefner came around and wanted women who were nice and neighborly. He introduced his first magazine in Europe. Men wanted a magazine they could enjoy and this was exactly what they wanted.

Temporal: Playboy has been around for more than sixty years. It has been shown all over the world although not too popular in places like China. Most of the subscribers are here in the United States. The years go by and playboy keeps things interesting. Well this year went by and playboy revealed something shocking.

Cultural: Quite a few people are surprised and shocked with playboys decision they made this year. Some are happy with the way the magazine is slowly changing. China has had a problem with playboy and other sex magazines for a while now. On the other hand, most of the United States thrive on playboy. They said that there were over 16 million subscribers in the last few years.

I am glad that something is starting to change with playboy. I have never been around people who look at them, or at least they don't in front of me. The magazine hasn't been too much of an issue for me because again I don't look at magazines like it. I'm sure there are quite a few subscribers who are a little upset with what playboy is doing with this years model. One of the ladies they interviewed grew up with a father who enjoyed looking at the magazine. He would often show her article in it to educate her. She seemed like she was happy with the decision they made this year. It was a great on the media to listen to it was very interesting.

Climate Change 2.0

Physical: Climate change has supposedly been destroying the planet slowly. Whether it be from agriculture on land producing green house gasses, or the ice caps by sea melting slowly. Scientists are saying that the world is slowly starting to fall apart. If the atmosphere doesn't give way first, then we will all be drowned eventually.

Psychological: The idea of climate change scares a lot of people. Scientists are not super scared at the moment because the process is a very slow one. They still worry and some may even may be called paranoid. A few environmentalists say that if we do not start taking better care of the planet the process may speed up.

Social: The conclusions of climate change are made strictly by scientists. This isn't a simple smaller group, we are talking about over thousands of scientists coming together to figure this out. Most of the scientists are actually volunteers and don't receive funds. The many different viewpoints of the situation definitely help solve the problem a little quicker.

Temporal: Climate change has been happening for many many years. Humans have always had an impact of change on the planet, whether it be from producing green house gasses to something as simple as littering. The climate will slowly continue to keep changing whether we like it or not and if it is not regulated soon it may start accelerating.

Cultural: As I mentioned earlier the scientists are from all over the world. There is not a set group of people who are trying to solve this on their own. The attitudes towards this are all very similar. If something is not done soon then we may all have doomed ourselves.

Ever since I was a little kid growing up there was always talk of global warming. I always laugh when somebody brings it up. I honestly don't think that the Earth is slowly starting to get warmer. The seasons have never changed and the Earth typically stays the same temperature year round. There are a few days of the year where a record "warmest/coldest day since .... comes out,'' but for the most part the Earth stays constant. Social media makes an impact on this by showing pictures of places years ago compared to today. Of course they are going to be different. Weather affects everything and makes changes happen. The article I read was very interesting, but I quite enjoyed what was being said. One thing that stuck out to me the most was that 97% of climatologists agree that we have a role to play in climate change which I agree with. There are so many people living on the planet how can we not affect the planet?

Religion 3.0

Religion has definitely made itself know on social media. Whether it be a church official having a twitter or an actual website where they can preach online. Religion's online social media aspect has expanded through the roof in the past few years. Religion 3.0 is based off of evidence, unlike Religion 1.0 and 2.0 which were based off of elders and scripture. According the the Church of Reality now is the time to incorporate reality into doctrine to "stay in the game."

Back when I was growing up the bible along with many other forms of scripture were an actual book. Nowadays the bible and other scriptures can be located anywhere online electronically. Famous quotes are posted so we can see them daily. Social media has helped make certain religions stronger in some cases, while in others it has brought them down. Now is the age of technology and we are seeing more and more religion put online. I don't really agree with the church or reality. What they are saying kind of makes sense, but not to the point where I believe them. They said we know the big history of the universe when in fact we know very little about the universe.
