Privacy 2.0

The internet is something that we use almost every day. Not only do we use it for purposes such as research, but at the same time we sometimes post things that are about us or personal to us. When we post about things that we want to keep private, or only allow certain people to view that is exactly what we want, to keep it private. A website can say that everything put on it will stay secure and private, but nowadays we see all too often something that was supposed to be kept private not so private anymore. Some people tend to keep things private because it holds a certain value to them that others wouldn't understand. Others keep things private because obviously they don't want others to know about it. Certain websites, such as shopping cites, need more information about their customers than the customers want to give out. Some websites say alright and leave the customer alone, while others will hire somebody, such as a hacker, to find and get the information for them.

Some say that keeping too much information hidden halts the progression of technology. In some cases this is absolutely true. If an inventor invents something, but doesn't want to share it with the world until it is absolutely needed, then he in turn makes a major profit, but at the same time can ruin others. For example, lets say a scientist has the specs for a faster computer which helps identify cancer hidden on his files on a computer. He doesn't want to release the specs yet because he wouldn't make the money he desires. The computer could help save others lives, but would cut a major part of his funds. I'm sure there are technologies out there that have been discovered, but have been kept hidden. Privacy is something that should not be taken lightly. We are always being told that the government can hear and watch us. If that is the case then so be it, I have nothing to hide. The best way to keep something private is to not post it on the internet in the first place. We live in a society where the internet goes hand-in-hand with our everyday lives. Don't let it fully take over. Privacy is something that we all want for the most part.
