Democracy 2.0

Democracy is the movement that will put control in the hands of a society. This is not a new system of government instead it decentralizes leadership. The people who want the government to change can. Right now there is a gap between politicians and the people. There is a lot of blame to be placed, but nobody knows where to pin it. The people are not to blame and neither are the politicians even though most will agree otherwise. People will constantly blame politicians for what is happening, but in the end won't do anything to change it. Blaming others and not acting on our own will accomplish nothing. If something is expected to be done right the first time the best person to do it is ourselves. Anger is a tool that can be used for both good and bad. Anger is really bad when trying to resolve solutions. Politicians need to focus on one goal at a time and not get too overwhelmed. Doing this may cause less blame to be put on them.

I feel like politicians get blamed for many things that are out of their control. Many people nowadays are super sue happy and judgmental. They like to throw blame on somebody else. In democracy this is also the case. People always tend to throw blame on politicians rather than doing something about the situation themselves. If politicians could throw out all the correct answers then our government would be a little too perfect. People make mistakes all the time including politicians. Politicians like to make promises they cannot keep. If politicians would instead make up some goals then they may not get so much judgment and blame thrown towards them. I say instead of blaming a politician I am going to try to handle a situation myself, that is if something that serious ever comes up in my life. I am not perfect so I will admit I have throw blame on somebody else who didn't deserve it. I am going to try to be better not only towards politicians, but everybody I come in contact with.

On the Media: Debunking Migration Memes

This week for On The Media I decided to listen to the story talking about debunking migration memes. A little bit about these memes are that they are saying that refugees are poor and need to be taken in. Philip Clinefeld is the journalist who is covering the story. He brings up some very interesting points. Anti-migration messages are spread throughout social media.

Physical: This is happening a lot over in Europe. The main meme that was created was geared towards England. It was showing a really buff guy refugee asking if he could come live in England because he heard there were steroids there.

Psychological: Some people don't quite know how to handle the situation. It is showing that all refugees are poor and need help, when in all reality that is not how it is. Some people are just looking for a better lifestyle. In order for that to happen they need to move away. These memes don't help their cause at all.

Social: There are rules set that if you enter a foreign country you are considered a foreigner or immigrant. If you start living in a new country without properly getting paperwork settled then you are known as an illegal immigrant. This is really bad, especially for refugees who are poor and can't afford citizenship.

Temporal: This is happening right now, and has been happening for quite some time. Refugees have been around since the beginning of time. People are always looking for better lifestyles. Some have the money to afford it, while others don't and have to scrape by to make ends meat.

Cultural: Some cultures are asked to pack up everything and move away to somewhere different. Some stray away and become refugees looking for a decent place to live. Not everybody's beliefs are the same so not everybody has the same mindset of the perfect place to live. If England is giving away free steroids I would definitely stay away from there.

I think it is wrong to make memes about different countries trying to get a certain group of people to move there. Lifestyle changes can be very hard, but sometimes they are crucial and need to happen. Although memes are meant to be funny, quite a few people get offended easily and think they are not. The memes are meant to stop migration, but who knows maybe they will aggravate it and make it worse?

Learning 2.0

As I was pondering on what I should write about exactly I decided to read one of the articles posted on the class website. The one I chose was "Are We Getting Better?" Within the article it shares a story of a young man growing up on the edge of a forest. All of the kids in the neighborhood loved to play in the forest. A few blocks down was another group who also enjoyed the forest. They would come up with team games to play such as hockey, tag, capture the flag, etc. They grew from their experiences knowing what hard work and dedication were important for success. He remembers playing with his friends non-stop, unless the rain and lightning kept them inside. He then goes on talking about how studies have shown that since television came out with shows other than the news that kids have slowly started to have more problems. Some shows are great for kids to watch, but some are a little over the top and researchers have said are starting to cause cognitive thinking problems within children. In the end he says that kids need to spend less time inside and more time outside enjoying nature and friendship. He then asks, "are we getting better?"

As I read the article it made total sense to me. I grew up playing all sorts of sports, hanging out with friends, spending time with family, and enjoying the wilderness. It wasn't until I was about the age of 12 when I got my first video game console that I started spending less and less time outside. Looking back I regret not spending time outside like I did as a younger child. I agree with this man that kids need to spend more time outside and less time watching television/playing video games. I think technology will one day be so addicting that people will not know how to have face-to-face conversations/interactions. Social media can be great, but at the same time it can ruin lives. I have a friend who has a serious video game addiction so I know first hand how it affects families and relationships.

On The Media: The Mexican Repatriation

The story I decided to write about this week was The Mexican "Repatriation" of the 1930's. This definitely impacted social media. Bob Garfield talks a little bit about what the Repatriation was and why it's important. He, along with quite a few others, did not know what the Mexican Repatriation was until argument to deport 11 million Mexicans came to be.

Physical:
This is happening in the United States right now during the presidential debate. Donald Trump wants to deport 11 million Mexicans back to Mexico, but there is evidence that back in the 1930's many Mexicans were born as American Patriots. This in turn creates a problem for Donald Trump and his supporters.

Psychological:
I can only imagine how certain people are feeling right now, especially the Mexican Americans. Reporters are asking questions like are you splitting up families? or where are they going to go? and why would you want to do this?

Social:
Donald Trump, along with many others were in the dark about the Mexican "Repatriation" and when it happened. As a Presidential candidate I feel like he needs to know all of this in order to succeed. Trump came out swinging saying that if they were illegal they had to go. Over 11 million is the number that Donald Trump is faced with at the moment.
Temporal:
Although the Repatriation happened back in the 1930's Trump is living in the now and wants to deport illegal immigrants. No matter if it is a single person who is illegal, if they want to stay with their family they will all have to be deported.
Cultural:
There wasn't a whole lot on the Mexican side of things on the story, but I can only imagine what they are thinking and saying. I'm sure the attitudes toward Donald Trump are not the greatest at this moment. A few of the reporters seemed a little concerned about the whole thing, but again that may just be apart of their jobs.

I believe that the Mexican Repatriation really did happen and that it should change the whole scope on Donald Trumps rampage to deport over 11 million Mexican immigrants, whether illegal or not. They said it was forgotten, but not dissipated. I'm glad it was brought back up for this debate. I don't fully grasp why he wants to get rid of all these citizens. I'm sure the work force will decrease drastically if his plans get thrown into motion.

On The Media

The story I decided to write about this week is "The Bitter Advertising of The Iranian Nuclear Deal." It is all over social media being said either how stupid and pointless it is, or that it will be very useful. People are asking why it is even being called a "deal" to begin with and that it is not what it should be.

Physical:
This is happening over in Iran. Obama is trying to help the Iranian government pass this so called "Nuclear Deal." A few senators are following his footsteps, but quite a few other senators are totally against it.
Psychological:
There are quite a few very upset senators who are outraged with Obama's choice. Quite a few people are angry, but on the other end some are happy that this is happening and want it to go through.
Social:
The deal says that the United States can sweep through Iran pretty much and make sure nothing illegal is happening. Something that wasn't highlighted in the beginning was the wait time of 24 days. The government could not go through a place without first waiting 24 days.
Temporal:
This is happening right now. The United States along with a few others are trying to pass the deal as we speak. Again a few senators are with the deal, while quite a few are against it. Who knows how long it will take to go through, that is if it ever does.
Cultural:
The attitudes are both good and bad. I'm sure most of the Iranian people who work at facilities and factories want the bill to not pass so they can keep doing what they are doing without the government asking questions. The ones who are scared are the ones who want the deal to go through so they can feel a little more comfort.

After listening to this short clip I have came to the conclusion that I am totally against the deal. I wish our government would worry more about ourselves rather than the Iranian people. The government needs to worry more about the problems closer to home. One of the senators said he is glad he lives where he does and couldn't imagine living over there. He doesn't agree with their way of life and I am totally with him. I don't feel like we need to get in the middle of their crap.

Racism 2.0

Unfortunately racism is still apart of our society. Social media has a very big influence on racism, if not the biggest. It can make a small story huge very quickly. For example, when a cop shoots an African American the media gets a hold of the story and makes it known to all. The story is seen by everybody who watches social media including family and friends of the person being shot. When a member of a family gets flak usually the family has something to say to whomever gave the flak.
When somebody is shot a riot, or some other form or rebellion, can very easily be brought up. This has happened so many times in the past, and is still currently happening today. Who knows when it will end? Some people can't let go of the fact that even though we may be a little different we are all human beings at the end of the day.

http://www.debate.org/opinions/is-racism-wrong

Growing up in a small town I personally was never affected by too much racism. There were a few students who were the minority. Nothing huge ever happened to upset another person. All of us lived as normal human beings no matter what race we were. I can say that I am definitely not a racist. When I look at a person I think to myself, "they are no different than I am."  Racism along with the use of social media can cause so much drama now a days its ridiculous. As I was reading some of the articles on the website above it blew my mind how some people talk to others. People who think they are better than others or are different are completely wrong. The people who say racism is alright are the ones who are constantly degrading others. I am fully against racism and hate it. I hope one day people can all resolve their differences and live as a whole.

On the Media: The little pink pill

I decided to write about the little pink pill. The little pink pill is a drug called Phlobantorin that arouses women sexually. Some are calling it Viagra for women. Brooke Gladstone from on the media covers how it is affecting not only women, but everybody surrounding a user.

Physical:
This topic is talked about all over the media. Stories are coming out about it all over. Brooke Gladstone talks about the pill and what people are saying about it. A few ads about the pill are put into the interview to see how the company wants to sell it.

Psychological:
Some women are all for the so called drug, while others are saying that it is wrong to go about changing womens' sex drives. Men are obviously happier about the news of a pill for women with the similar effects as Viagra. Some women are angry and are totally against the idea and want nothing to do with it. Feminists are saying that the drug was made for a condition that doesn't exist.

Social:
The roles of this drug would be to sexually arouse women easier. This in turn would make both males and females happier. What makes this different from Viagra is that this pill was actually made for women to arouse them sexually. In the beginning Viagra was made to unblock certain parts of a male when they became plugged. The rules are to use at your own risk.

Temporal:
This is going on all over the place. Due to the fact that Feminists are totally against this pill, not all women will want to take part in trying it. Viagra was made in 1998 and from then on scientists have been looking for a way to make a female version. Here we are less than 20 years later with the drug, but not everybody is too happy with it.

Cultural:
Again the attitudes towards this issue are both good and bad. I am leaning on more of the bad side. Feminists have really stepped up and are totally bashing on the product. They say this is a drug that makes women feel bad about themselves, when in all reality women feel bad for themselves regardless.

I honestly feel that this drug will indeed help out women who struggle to get aroused. According to the article 43% of women have a problem getting aroused sexually. The survey that was taken was a little skewed so the results are not 100% accurate. The article states that there are 26 different kinds of drugs men can take for sexual arousal, while this is the first and only pill for women. I found all that information highly interesting. I say the pill should be put to use. The USDA didn't work that hard to have all their hard work shut down by a few feminists who say the pill is wrong and that there is no need for it.
